Grace under Fire

I read this article on Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail entitled "Grace under Fire" by Andrew Sia.

What interest me the most is what she mentioned at the end of the article:

How does she feel about the Malay response to moving away from the New Economic Policy (NEP) towards PKR's multi-racial Malaysian Economic Agenda?

"Some Malays are worried. Oh, tak ada lagi? (Oh, no more?).

"When the NEP started, it did some good.

Then it was hijacked by people who knew how to press the right buttons.

"But we say that we will help all races.

After 50 years of independence, we've had enough of playing the racial card."

"Harmony is not just about cultural dancing and kongsi raya rituals, it should be much more than that. It's about time we really become true Malaysians."

Interesting, rite?

What's in a NAME...?

Dilemma, dilemma, dilemma.... itulah masalahnya bila nama dah glamer giler... :)

Many friends do not really know my full name. Family members would call me Pejol... old friends would call me Faizul... ITM friends would call me John... and after that it became Johan.

Most new friends still do not know what my exact full name is. Well, it is Faizul Johan Bin Abdul Manaf. When I was studying in France, the university mates had difficulties in remembering the name Faizul (my surname would automatically be Manaf... how la, I don't have a surname, so I use my father's name if anybody asks me my surname).

So, I have decided to make my name simpler and easier to remember: Johan Manaf... Johan being a common name in Europe, so I thot that it would be easier for the friends but unfortunately, most of the time it became "Yohan"... what to do, I accepted it...

After returning to "Tanahair" (I luv this word), I forgot to change back my name to Faizul... Btw, I kinna like the name Johan (champion one you know!)... people would be calling me "champion" all the time, and I believe that psychologically, it does work...it makes me a better man...hehehe...

But now, in this part of the world, they kinna relate the name "Johan" to a western name...a biblical name, a Hebrew name...John or Yohannes...the meaning is also quite nice "God is gracious"...ok what, nice name rite...? But no, not so...nice name - Yes, Western name - also Yes. So when they get to know that I am Muslim, they kinna ask me why the name Johan so the whole story comes out...dadadi...dadada...voila...! Johan...

They say that I better use back my first name: Faizul...or even better the original version of it...Faisal (btw, previously in UAE, my name was written as Faisal in Arabic) Why Faisal in KSA? Because the people here like the name Faisal...Faisal is a common name in KSA, it was the name of the late King Faisal of KSA...hmmm...have to check out what Faisal means...

Just checked it out...it means - "Resolute/Decisive/Criterion/Arbitrator/Arbiter/Umpire"...hua like that one huh...? Hmmm...nice, nice...

Currently in my biz card, they have put my name as "Faisul J. Abdul Manaf"...apa2lah...! Jgn panggil Manaf sudah...!! Tersedak my father in Malaysia everytime somebody calls me "Manaf". Hehehe....

(Cultural note : Malays believe that if you accidentally call out the name of a person who you know, but who is not there at that time, the person will choke/hiccup - tersedak, at the other side of the world. So whenever somebody chokes/tersedak, means that somebody just mentioned his/her name somewhere...iyalah tuh! Kat Mesia nih, macam2 ada...!!)

Hmmm...how to sign off now? Johan? Faisal? Manaf...? Tauke tempe? Hmmm King Kong ajalah...!! Hahaha...

Sayu...!! Terkenang...

"Lelaki Ini "

Kasih, kenanganku
Ingatkah saat saat dulu
Kasih, apakah dirimu
Merasakan semua itu

Ke mana pun langkahku pergi
Ku masih melihat bayanganmu cintaku
Dan kemana pun arah anginku berlari
Hati ini masih kau miliki

Lelaki ini yang selalu mencintamu
Selalu, tanpa ragu
Lelaki ini yang selalu memuja
Hanya dirimu
Yang bertakhta dalam sanubariku
Sanubari ku
Aku yang mencintakan mu
Hanya dirimu

Karena cintaku, tak berbatas waktu
Karena cintaku, tak mengenal jenuh hatimu
Hatimu

2 Cows

This one I curi from MIM's blog... sori curi... but suka sangat...!! hehehe...

SUBJECT: 2 Cows

SOCIALISM: You have 2 cows and you give one to your neighbour.

COMMUNISM: You have 2 cows. The Government takes both and gives you milk.

NAZISM: You have 2 cows. The Government takes both and shoots you.

AN AMERICAN CORPORATION: You have 2 cows. You sell one and force the other to produce milk of four cows. Later, you hire a consultant to analyze why the cow dropped dead.

A FRENCH CORPORATION: You have 2 cows. You go on strike because you want three cows.

A RUSSIAN CORPORATION: You have 2 cows. You count them and learn you have five cows. You count them again and learn you have 42 cows. You count them again and learn you have 2 cows. You stop counting cows and open another bottle of vodka.

A BRITISH CORPORATION: You have 2 cows. Both are mad.

LEBANON SYSTEM: You have 2 cows. One is owned by Syria and the other is controlled by the Government.

EGYPT SYSTEM: You have 2 cows. Both vote for Mubarak.

DUBAI SYSTEM: You have 2 cows. You create a website for them and advertise them in all magazines. You create a " Cow City " or " Milk Village " for them. You sell off their milk before the cows have even been milked to both legit and shady investors who hope to resell the non-existent milk for a 100% profit in two years time. You bring Tiger Woods to milk the cow first to attract media attention.

SHARJAH SYSTEM: (Where I live, 1 of the 7 UAE states): You have 2 cows. You sell them to an investor in Dubai. The cows get stuck in traffic between Sharjah to Dubai and die. You have zero cows now.

SAUDI SYSTEM: You have 2 cows. You bring them to the Ministry of Agriculture for vaccination. At security check point, the Police blows up both cows coz it seems that they have bombs inside the tummy, you get jailed for attempting to overthrow the King.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Latest Super Hero (only in Singapore)

Dutch Idol

How well do you know your fellow citizen?

Travelling & living abroad open your eyes and broaden you minds. It has never crossed my mind to learn and better understand the culture of my other fellow citizen, friends and neighbours, until I went to study abroad...

Fortunately (or unfortunately) I went to a country where Malaysia was not known. My friend and I told some friends in university that Malaysia was located between USA & Canada, not far from the Great Lakes, and we are basically one tribe part the native "Red Indians"... and guess what? 50% of these friends believed out story...!!

Then it came the time to explain where our beloved country was... (often and unfortunately, we had to say that, we are located between Thailand & Singapore, and part of Borneo island that we share with Indonesia - if they do not know where Malaysia is, forget mentioning Brunei. it will just confuse them further....)

Then it came the time to explain who are the people living in Malaysia, how different are they from me, what are the celebrations that they (and me) observe, what food do we eat...? Only then I realized that I actually didn't know my neighbours, friends & fellow citizen...

Thaipusam is just a holiday in Perak, what is Deepavali then? what kind of calendar did Sree Kumar use (highschool best friend, Christopher Chan was anthr best friend - well, the 3 stooges, what can I say...), when he said that it was Hindu new year? Errr...was it Hindu new year or was it Indian new year? And the date is based on which calendar? Lunar calendar like the Muslim & Chinese Calendar? Or solar calendar like the Gregorian calendar that we officially use now in our work life? How come in Sabah & Sarawak, they have Good Friday holiday? What the heck is Chap Go Meh? The Kelantanese eat "Tahi Itik"? Are you for real? When do they have Chingay parade? For what exactly? And Moon Cake Festival? What is that? And how do you actually eat the Moon Cake/kuih bakul...? It is so hard to eat...! And Pesta Gawai, what is that now? And what are the days that Mr Karpal Singh celebrate/commemorate? What is the different between Laksa Johor, Laksa Penang, Laksa Sarawak and Laksa Pak Ngah in Kuala Kangsar (where my kampung is)...? How do you differentiate between Orang Ulu, Iban, Melanau, Malay, Bidayuh, Kadazan, Murut, Dusun, Sulu, Senoi, Temiang, Malayalese, Tamil, Sinhalese, Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka?

I did some research to understand better my own country & its people.... and guess what? By learning the culture and traditions, I have understood better my fellow citizens and appreciate them even more than before...who could have guess, by travelling and staying in a foreign country, I did actually learn more about my own beloved Malaysia.

Often I also get these questions: What unites us as Malaysian? We are in a way different but yet we are all together...what makes us decide to live together? That's easier to answer I guess...Patience, Understanding, Respect, Modesty, Tolerance...

Now guys & gals:

  • What are the 5 objects that traditionally a Sikh would have with him (to be come a good Sikh)?
  • What is Lent? when does it start? when does it end? what are the dates?
  • Pesta Gawai - when is it celebrated? for what?
  • What is the new year for the Hindus? what about for the Sikhs? what are they called?
  • Malam Tujuh Likur - what the heck is that? when?
  • With reference to the Gregorian Calendar, how come the Chinese Calendar (lunar calendar) does not move like the Muslim Calendar (goes up 11 days every year)?
  • Who is Dayak Laut, and is Dayak Darat?
  • What is Tadau Kaamatan?
  • ...and a lot more...

Lots of questions...and I don't have answers to some of the questions above too...still discovering my own country. Well, the tagline Malaysia, Truly Asia is for sure 100% true.

Hope that Internent, Google & Wikipedia will help us to know better our friends & neighbours...

The Village of Fucking!

Believe it or not...!

What's the F---ing joke?
September 3, 2005

Leave me in peace with this F---ing! - FRANZ MEINDL, the town's new mayor

The 104 inhabitants of F---ing, Austria are tired of pesky tourists - and they're fighting back, writes Toby Harnden.

For those travelling to it across the border from Germany, it is a long way further on from Petting - where some people prefer to stop for a while rather than going all the way. It might appropriately be twinned with the Amish town of Intercourse, Pennsylvania. Or perhaps with Condom, France. Or Climax, Colorado.

In the world of crosswords, cryptically the name of the village, which begins with F, has seven letters and is not for those under 16, could be: "Monarch follows soccer team, you hear."

A quick crossword clue might ask you, po-faced, for the gerund form of the English profanity that refers to the principal act leading to procreation.

An etymologist would know that its verb was derived from the Latin futuere and the Old German ficken, meaning "to strike or penetrate". The lexicographer can trace its first recorded use to John Florio's A World of Words, a 1598 dictionary.

D. H. Lawrence used it in Lady Chatterley's Lover in 1928, but it was 32 years before it could be published legally. The playwright Kenneth Tynan was the first one to utter it on television four decades ago.

But for the conservative inhabitants of a settlement called F---ing in rural Upper Austria near Salzburg that comprises just 32 houses (population: 104), the English meaning of their village's name is just one giant headache.

One night, tourists stole all four road signs on its approaches. Since records began, there has been no crime there - apart from the perennial theft of what officials call "street furniture".

Now the authorities are fighting back. The signs have been set in concrete bases and Kommandant Schmidtberger, the local police chief, hints at clandestine operations to combat what he calls "foreign criminals" disturbing the alpine order.

Around the village, corn grows in neat rows, stacks of wood seem almost geometrically arranged and every lawn is clipped each week. "God bless our work" is painted over the threshold of one rustic dairy farm.

"Let's just say there are plans in place to deal with this," the Kommandant warned darkly. "What they are, I am not at liberty to disclose, but we will not stand for the F---ing signs being removed. It may be very amusing for you British, but F---ing is simply F---ing to us. What is this big F---ing joke? It is puerile."

Local guide Andreas Behmuller said that each nationality had its own priorities when visiting the area. "The Germans all want to see the Mozart house in Salzburg. Italians and Russians always celebrate New Year here. Every American seems to care only about The Sound of Music (filmed around Salzburg in 1965). The occasional Japanese wants to see Hitler's birthplace in Braunau. But for the British, it's all about F---ing."

The village is believed to have been founded in the sixth century by a Bavarian noble called Focko. The Germanic ending "ing" means "family of". Its existence was first documented in 1070 and records show that 20 years later its lord was Adalpertus de Fucingin. By 1303, it was known as Fukching and in 1532 the official designation was Fugkhing. It was not until 1760 that the village took its modern name, which is pronounced in German with a guttural "oo" sound.

After World War II, British and American soldiers stationed near Salzburg noticed the name and, to the bemusement of villagers, began to visit the place and be photographed beside its signs while striking jocular poses.

The number of tourists who take a quick detour has been increasing ever since. Now there is even the occasional tour bus.

"Here we have tranquillity, clean air, lakes, acres of forests and some of the most breathtaking vistas one could imagine," says Augustina Lindlbauer, who runs a guesthouse in a medieval pile just outside the village.

"Yet still there is this obsession with F---ing. Just this morning I had to tell an English lady who stopped by that there were no F---ing postcards."

The one local who tried to cash in on the village's growing fame was threatened and shouted at in the street. Josef Winkler set up an internet site selling T-shirts featuring the village sign and carrying the message: "I like F---ing in Austria." They were selling well and there were even discussions with the men's magazine Maxim about a possible promotion.

"It was a bit of fun that didn't hurt anyone, but I found out that in this region you just can't do something like that," says a chastened Mr Winkler. "The whole thing became a real trial for me and I had to stop. People are very traditional here."

Newly elected mayor Franz Meindl refuses to discuss the issue, on the basis that any publicity would simply lead to more signs being stolen. "Leave me in peace with this F---ing," he says angrily, before slamming down the telephone.

His predecessor, Siegfried Hauppl, was equally dismissive when he was interrupted playing a game of Skat. "I am no longer the mayor so this F---ing problem is nothing to do with me," he growled, turning his back and studying his cards.

At the area council offices in adjoining Tarsdorf, a young planning official called Gabriele, who asked for her surname to be kept secret for fear of provoking reprisals, revealed that each sign cost at least EUR300 ($A490) to replace and this was reflected in local taxes.

"There was even some discussion about changing the name because it has become such a serious issue," she says.

"But everyone decided that F---ing had been here for so long that it would be a shame to consign it to the past.

"The older people don't like being laughed at by some of the younger ones from other villages, but we are proud of our beautiful F---ing."

Adoi...! Pedasnya...!! (Puisi Suami untuk Isteri)

### Puisi Suami untuk Isteri ###

Isteriku,
...jika engkau bumi, akulah matahari.
Aku akan menyinari mu kerana engkau mengharapkan sinaran dari ku.
Ingatlah bahtera yg kita kayuh, begitu penuh riak gelombang.
Aku pasti akan tetap menyinari bumi, hingga kadang-kadang bumi terasa akan silauan ku.
Lantas aku ingat satu hal bahawa Tuhan mencipta bukan hanya bumi,
...malah ada planet lain yang juga mengharapkan sinaranku.
Lalu.....Relakanlah aku menyinari planet lain, menyampaikan faedah adanya aku,
...kerana sudah takdir Illahi sinaranku diperlukan diplanet lain...

*** Balasan Puisi Sang Isteri ***

Suamiku,
...andai kau memang mentari,
Cuba lihat siapa dirimu...
MATAHARI atau lilin?
...atau jangan-jangan cuma mancis saja!!!!!
Please lah...!!!

Kua! Kua! Kua!!!... Very funny!!
Bini "Green with Envy...!!"

From Dubai to Riyadh

Work

Have started work in this new company: PCard. A new company specialisation in smart card personalization services for the Saudi market...newest player in town (Riyadh).

Still a very young company, a start up. Now, officially we only have 5 staffs (CEO, COO, CMO, VP Sales, and office manager)...gua buat apa? Amende lagi VP Sales ler...nama VP, hopefully will have lots of staffs to take care of...! Jgn nama jer bombastic tapi tak ada mendenya...

Watever it is, gaji naik, better than before...it does help, coz since USD currency jatuh merudum nih..., punyalah teruk that my current salary (better in AED & SAR currency) is basically the same as before in MYR...hmmm...rezeki, rezeki...Allah nak bagi...kalau tak, leceh jugak...makin hari gaji makin turun, barang2 kat UAE tuh makin hari, makin naik.

Office baru is in Ajman UAE, tapi will be going to Riyadh very often. Of course ler...target market is KSA, nak buat amendenya peram telo lama2 kat Ajman (Ajman is not Dubai, Ajman is in UAE but a different Emirate, so stay kat Sharjah, opis kat Ajman...very much less traffic).

Last Thurs, atas sebab2 yang tak dpt dielakkan (administrative, visit Visa validity period), gua kena dtg Riyadh asap...to process my iqama in KSA (resident visa ler tuh)...so have to stay here for a few weeks...hmmm...kelam kabut ler jugak...and have to stay here for a few weeks lak tu...I am using "the secret" to get the iqama faster and go back Dubai before end of next week...hehehe...

Riyadh

So Riyadh...? What is here...? A part from being the capital city of KSA...there is nothing much here...compared to Dubai, memang jauh berbeza...good for family man...rules are strict here (don't prey prey huh...!!)

I have not had the opportunity to go around yet...malas lerrr...but will do so soon...current office is at Kingdom Tower (tallest tower in KSA, don't prey prey huh...! Tapi tak la setinggi mana pun....). Kingdom tower nih is a landmark in KSA/Riyadh (bangunan bentuk botol opener...can't understand why the design is like that...have to investigate...). Will not be here for long though, later will move to the actual perso centre (the plant ,basically) when everything is ready (may be next month).

Funny thing is that in Riyadh, there are a lot of police check points. It seems that there are some "terorist groups" who try to carry out bomb attacks...Iyolah tuh...!! Basically, I think it is actually to control any anti-government activities. This country is a "Monarch Absolute' country...the King is the Boss (like Brunei laaa, not Constitutional Monarchy like in Mesia/UK)...I guess some people are not very happy with the King (for being pro US, for example - among other reasons I guess...) and they do not have any avenues to voice their disagreement on the way the country is governed...so apa lagi, main bom mengebom laaa...always the extreme measure...jadinya, there are check points everywhere...especially near banks, near govt buildings (Ministry of Internal affairs/security/police punya hq usah cerita lerrr...all access points to the bldng ada check points). Kat bawah Kingdom Tower tuh pun ada check point kalau nak masuk ke parking...siap bukak boot engine lagi nak check kalau ada bom...siap dgn machine gun lagi...! Sumpah tak tipu never bohong one...!!!

Well, lain negara lain caranya...kat Kuwait security agak strict jugak, tapi mainly to access important bldngs (hotels, banks etc etc...) siap ada body search lagi (ala2 mcm nak naik kapal terobang)...

So far, only in these 2 countries in this region, which have strict & tight security...kat Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, tak la camni...but I haven't been to Lebanon (Lubnan) & Iraq yet...I guess, it is worse there... depa main bom tiap2 hari...!

In SEA, have seen such thing only in Manila & Jakarta...(well, they do have bomb threats from time to time...)

I haven't bought Riyadh map yet, so I don't actually know where I am in this city...

Saudis

Saudis are nice people, especially towards other Muslims....when I arrived at the hotel, they thought that I was filipino...(mcm biasa lah kan... dah rupa Pinoy, nak buat camna? serumpun katakan...) so the treatment was not so nice...but when they took my passport for registration (and discovered that I am Malaysian)...huaaaa!!! suddenly the treatment changed drastically...!

It seems that they love Malaysia so much...! (thanks to Maha...Mahathir. Hehehe...tribute must be given to the person who earns it, even though sometimes I don't totally agree with some of things which happened during his tenure) Hmmm...

Like other countries in GCC, treatment towards the workers is less nicer...(Filipinos, Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis). Arab2 nih sombong gak kengkadang terhadap pekerja2 bawahan depa...camna nak buat, depa nih kaya raya...kira sama la tuh mana2...have noticed that it is similar in Indonesia as well (sometimes, the rich ones treat their workers, drivers, maids like piece of shit...)

Well different from Mesia & SIN city...the country's wealth is quite well distributed among the citizen (as a country, the middle class people represent the majority of the citizen) Kat sini, yang kaya banyak (dan terlalu kaya) dan yg pekerja2 depa semua depa ambik dari negara2 miskin. We (Mesia/SIN city) tend to be nice to even the person who does the dirtiest job on earth...well, that's the way we are...I remember one occasion, I was staying with my parents in a hotel apartment kat Kuching, and I basically scolded the operator (coz nobody came to clean up the room that day, and after calling once, still nobody came, so 2nd call, depa kena scold la...) my father complaint to my mom that I have become very sombong...!! Huaaa...!! That remark has taken me aback...!! Well...I realize at that time that we (well, especially malays) bila marah pun tetap bersopan...(hmmm...sometimes it doesn't work though...bila kena maki sekali, baru nak kelam kabut buat kerja...) Btw, to make story short, somebody has actually switched on the "Do Not Disturb" button in the room...sebab tuh depa tak dtg kemas bilik...hehehe...(and it was not me...!! Sumpah tak tipu never bohong one...!! :))

Al Lughatul Arabiah...

If I can get away in UAE with English....it will not be the case here in Riyadh... they are not so good in English...am not talking about the people in the office, but the people in the street...(thinking of it... they might not be Saudis in the first place... hmmmm...).

So like it or not, I have to start learning some Arabic expressions for survival...everybody is expected to know some basic Arabic (even the Filipinos here can understand & speak Arabic...broken one laaa but at least they can understand...). Same case like the Bangladeshis in Mesia, I guess...they go back to Dhaka/Chittagong and proudly speaking Malay among them (the ones who have been to Mesia).

Nak ambik teksi pun, tengok driver dia sapa...kalau ala2 Pak Arab tuh, tak nak ambik...kalau ala2 Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani...baru tahan teksi...sebab senang nak communicate in English...what to do...

Office

The current office is nice (am squatting in the mtg room)...Well it is the Sheikh's office...besar lak tuh...kalau ada accountant Mesia, memang sure dah kena trim down very much...! Basically, the office is only for 5 people (1 boardroom/mtng room, 4 bosses rooms + a table for 1 person outside - ala2 secretary to all), but the overall size of the office is big & luxurious. Big mtg room, canggih IT equipment, beautiful interior deco, in office toilet & pantry (tak share with other people on the same floor)...and got 1 person who will make coffee for you...tak payah mintak pun...sampai2 jer terus dapat kopi...dia cuma tanya sekali jer masa mula2 sampai - and the question is "tea or coffee, and how do you like it, how many spoons of sugar, with or without milk". Lepas tuh tiap2 hari dapat...sampai opis, dpt 1 mug, at 11am dapat anthr mug, and at 2pm get another mug...kalau nak lagi in between (for people like me who are addicted to coffee), bagitahu jer, and they will do it immediately. Hari tuh, I went to the pantry coz I wanna make my own coffee (belum jam 11am lagi, errr...I need coffee every hour maaa...), the "coffee guy" - Rashid immediately come and tell me that he will do it...smiling he said, "Let me do it, it is my job, am here this work..."... Segan teman...kang dia kata kita curi kerja dia lak...hehehe...

Well...well, I am now at the group's head office...(Sheikh's office...he is seldom there though), bila dah pindah ke Perso Centre nanti lain la ceritanya for sure....kena buat kopi sendiri ler...hehehe. so, moral of the story, enjoy it while you can...

Kat sini, depa solat kat office hall jer...bentang carpet solat (carpet OK, bukan tikar sejadah simple tuh jer...really nice comfy carpet...!) Dan solat sama ada sorang2 atau berjemaah...I have notice that after joining them for solat jamaah, the bosses are nicer to me...talk to me more often, drop by at the mtg room to check if everything is OK for me...huaaa...!!

Hotel

Last thing to talk about is the hotel...after coming here a few times (with previous company), I did notice that the hotels are not that great...! Well, I have only been to a few Holiday Inns here...for this trip I didn't have high expectation coz they will surely put me in a budget hotel (coz I will stay here for min 2 weeks)...memang betul pun...

Room not so nice - no window, k...! So without a watch I wouldn't know if it's day or nite out there. No coffee maker in the room, no electric kettle, no hotel restaurant (cuma coffee shop selling basic tea, coffee, snacks...), no cleaning everyday (if you want your room to be cleaned, have to call room service and tell them), no restos nearby (or may be I just dunno coz I don't go out that much)...but got wireless internet access, gym & sauna (reasonable, not Fitness First standard, but not community gym standard neither...)..got small sundry shop just at the exit (same building), coffee shop prices are very reasonable...so am just making the full out of what is there...

To make my stay here nicer, went to buy a cheap electric kettle & nescafe 3in1 ystrdy...yeah...!! If no, no coffee whenever I want...bought at Carrefour located next to the Kingdom Tower (not many people ystdy...). Also bought some food for dinner (first time that I have proper dinner since arvng here... kalau tak burger & fries jer lah...)

But one thing has been annoying me in this room...it has some kind of smell whenever I enter the room...I think I know what it is...it's the toilet smell, dunno why but the toilets here have some kind of smell...noticed it ystdy when I went to the public toilet at Carrefour....same smell...I think it is because the room is not "fresh", no window...so cannot aerate the room properly...well I have resorted to buying room deodoriser ystrdy...put one in the toilet, and have a freshener spray in the room...less odour now...later kalau tak tahan jugak, I will request to change room...nak tukar2 bilik nih leceh la, have to pack, unpack....tak koser...!!

Prepaid line

Eh, got one more thing to story-story...I have changed my mobile line...previous line was cut by the stupid French arsehole!! Can't get a postpaid line (since I do not have any resident visa yet in both countries - UAE & KSA), so I have to use a prepaid line. This is the first time in my life that I use a prepaid line...my goodness gracious!!! Benda2 yg simple pun tak gheti nak buat...eg loading credit into my account...mana tidaknya, beli E-voucher top up, so no instruction on how to reload the credit, bila beli the actual "top up card" baru tahu camna nak top up (baca instruction maaa...)

But then, when you go abroad, the way to top up lain pulak...!! Hai siksanya...!! Kena bekal Etisalat Wasel top up cards sebelum pegi travel. Nih kat Riyadh nih pun guna local Mobily Hala prepaid line...went to Mobily website to learn the basic stuffs (what denomination is available for the top up value, kat mana nak beli etc etc...), guess what...? no infos...I guess that it is just too basic that they do not bother to put it in the website anymore...I can comprehend that.
But for new prepaid users, it is really a challenge...(controlling your credit available for the line - especially when you are travelling, mana nak dpt Etisalat Wasel reload card kalau credit dah habis...? I can call using the local Mobily Hala line, but if anybody needs to call me on my Etisalat Wasel line? how?...). Hope that I will get my resident visa for both countries soon, so that I can get a postpaid line in both countries...if not very difficult to do business one you know...!

OKlah, dah panjang lebar dah bercerita nih...next time I go back Dubai, I will take more photos and put in the blog, k...!! Baru nak dpt laptop, sejak berenti kerojer kat OCS dulu, tak berlaptop, so susah skt nak download photos...PC yang ada kat rumah tuh Imran punya...dia pun nak "main komputer..." (ada ker...? Whenever he's using the PC for blogging ker, surfing internet kerrr...dia kata dia tengah "main komputer"...)... macam dengo my nephew/nieces cakap...but the difference is that they are really playing computer games...hehehe...

Ciao cincau!

Huaaa...!! Kelantan so happening one huh...??

Was reading Malaysia Today ystdy and ran into the below article...!!! Hua...! Mm stunned...!! Kelantan, so happening one huh...? Also read my comments at the end of the article by RPK.

I oppose an Islamic State

Islam forbids oppression and favouritism. Therefore the New Economic Policy would have to be abolished and a meritocracy system would have tobe introduced to replace it. The Federal Constitution of Malaysia wouldalso have to be amended to remove the rights and special privileges ofthe Malays.

"Let me show you something,"

I told my wife who I have been withfor 40 years now.We were in Kota Bharu in Kelantan to cover the Islamic Party ofMalaysia's national convention. I admit, surrounded by the long-robbedand properly-covered' PAS women, my wife looked like a fish out of water. But they did not seem to mind that amongst their midst was this uncovered woman in tight jeans and even tighter T-shirt that revealed more than what Muslim women are supposed to reveal.

The normal convention would be for the women to sit on one side of the hall and the men on the other, the proper segregation of the sexes intrue Muslim fashion. But my wife chose to sit beside me in the men'ssection and we sat close to the exit so that she could pop out into the corridor every hour or so to recharge her nicotine level. Yes, an uncovered woman in tight jeans and T-shirts and puffing away on top of that would not be considered the normal setting in a PAS gathering, and sitting in the men's section as well to complete the unorthodoxscene. But this did not appear to have ruffled any feathers or triggered any murmurings from amongst the 1,500 or so PAS delegates from all overMalaysia.

I swung into a back alley and slowed down as we neared about a dozen orso young girls and boys loitering in the dark shadows. Some wereprobably mere teenagers but they all had one thing in common, they allhad good looks.

"Look at those boys and girls," I told my wife.

"What are they waiting for?" my wife asked, half-suspecting she already knew the answer.

"Customers of course."

"Sure, I can understand the girls are waiting for customers. But what about the boys?"

"Also for customers?"

"Men customers?" she asked with a 'don't tell me they're waiting for women customers' look on her face.

"They waiting for women, of course. What, you mean you women can'talso buy sex off the streets?"

"I know we can, but maybe in KL, this is Kota Bharu."

"Hey, Kota Bharu women also need sex."

I stopped the car and signalled to one extremely good-looking young manto come forward.

"Hey, what you doing?" My wife was taken abackand did not know if I was just teasing or whether this was for real.

"Don't worry. I just want to demonstrate something to you."

As the delicious-looking young thing came closer I lowered the window and he popped his head into the car and greeted us with a sweet

"Hai PakCik, MakCik."

"Hey, you panggil kami Pak Cik, Mak Cik, tak mahu berkawanlah. Panggillah Abang dan Kakak."

"Oh, sorrylah, Abang, Kakak. Jangan marah ia?"

"Tak marah. Bergurau je."

"You looking for a man?" the hunk of a young guy asked.

"Well, sort of."

"For you or for Kakak?"

"Which one you prefer?"

"Both also okay. Abang pun boleh, Kakak pun boleh."

"Kalau dua-dua sekali?" I asked, as my wife thumped me on mychest, appalled that this may be going further than she would like it to.

"Dua-dua sekali maksud apa?"

"Dua-dua sekali, threesome."

"Threesome also can. Lagi enjoy."

"You biasa buat threesome dulu? Tak nervous?"

"Biasa. No problem."

"Threesome you biasa buat macam mana? Husband tengok ke wife tengok ke tiga-tiga sekali?"

"Semua dah try."

"Tapi yang mana you prefer?"

"I suka tiga-tiga sekali. I kat tengah...... So, Abang dan Kaka nak tak? I guarantee puas."

"Okay, bagi kita check-in hotel dulu. I datang balek setengah jam lagi."

"Alright.... datang balek okay? Jangan tak datang."My wife could not hold back her laughter as we drove off.

"You really teruklah. Wow, Kota Bharu also has all this."

"Of course, you can even get this in Saudi Arabia so what is KotaBharu?"

PAS has been ruling the 'Islamic' state of Kelantan for 18 years and, inspite of the loud Islamic State rhetoric, you can still decide whether to live the life of a pious Muslim or instead indulge in a 'western' lifestyle of sex games. And of course if bakuteh and beer are your thing you can never be short of those as well.I am not trying to say that PAS' Islamic State proposal is pure rhetorical bullshit. I am not even trying to say that an Islamic State is 'safe' and poses no danger to anyone who would rather live the life of a devil's disciple.

What I am emphasising here is that Islam has to rise above mere rhetoric. Shouting about Islam will not bring about changes. Legislation and the creation of an Islamic State would also not bring about changes. Changes can only be brought about through educationand by the will of the people to live the life of a true Muslim.

That, and only that, will bring about changes.

And we do not need an Islamic State for that. If the people refuse to change, no Islamic State can change them. Furthermore, screaming about an Islamic State would just alienate and antagonise non-Muslims, who as it is already fear Islam and would run scared from anyone who rants and raves about Islam.

DAP is one example of a serious infliction of Islamphobia. The DAP people are so scared of Islam and scared shit that the non-Muslim Chinese will punish them come the next general election if they form acoalition government in Perak with a PAS man as the Menteri Besar.

Can we really blame DAP when they have suffered such punishment in the past and the very thought of this episode being repeated sends shivers down their spine? It is easy to accuse DAP of being anti-Islam but if we were in DAP's shoes we would certainly not act any differently. This is, after all, a matter of political survival, and if it is politically expedient to oppose Islam, then this is what must be done just to stay relevant to the non-Muslim Chinese and to continue getting their support.

If DAP is seen as 'selling out', this would be the beginning of the end for DAP. Nevertheless, while we can appreciate what motivates DAP -- and while we may have no quarrel with their reasons for flying off the handle at the prospect of forming a government with PAS and then having PAS as the Menteri Besar on top of that -- it is their methods that we find fault with.

Making public statements to the government-controlled media who would just exploit the issue and present the opposition in a negative light is just not on.

Have you noticed that the Barisan Nasional states of Perlis and Terengganu are also facing problems? Perlis and Terengganu too can't form governments and there is a serious deadlock as to who should be the new Menteris Besar. But the media does not play up the issue of Perlis and Terengganu.

They do, however, play up Perak and Selangor which areactually lesser problems than Perlis and Terengganu.Let me say this again and let me say it loud and clear.

READ MY LIPS, PAS.WE DO NOT NEED AN ISLAMIC STATE.
WE NEED MUSLIMS WHO ARE NOT HYPOCRITES.

And that is why I oppose the creation of an Islamic State. AnIslamic State would give an impression that everything is honky-dorywhereas in actual fact it is not. An Islamic State would give an impression that we are all good Muslims whereas we would be nothing but abunch of hypocrites. Better we have no Islamic State than we are reduced to a bunch of munafiks living in an Islamic State.

Let me tell you why every Malay in Malaysia should also oppose an Islamic State. And these are just three of the reasons amongst many.

Islam forbids oppression and favouritism. Therefore the New Economic Policy would have to be abolished and a meritocracy system would have to be introduced to replace it. The Federal Constitution of Malaysia would also have to be amended to remove the rights and special privileges of the Malays. Every rakyat would be treated as equal to one another and Malays would no longer be the Lords or Tuan of this country and Ketuanan Melayu would therefore no longer exist. This would also mean the quota system, special discounts for Malays, and much more, would all immediately cease to exist. An Islamic State would give the non-Malays an advantage over the Malays and the Malays would be left far, far behind, economically as well as academically.

Side-incomes would be drastically reduced or eliminated altogether. The basic salary for 95% of the Malays is very low compared to the non-Malays. This is because most Malays go into government service or join the police, army, navy, air force, customs department, etc., where the salaries are very low, whereas most non-Malays are either professionals, go into the corporate world, or run their ownbusiness. The non-Malay take-home pay, therefore, is quite substantial while Malays have to resort to commissions and kickbacks to supplement their meagre income. Under an Islamic State, corruption would beseverely dealt with -- though not as bad as China which shoots their corrupted civil servants in the head -- so all forms of corruption would have to come to an end.

Without these commissions and kickbacks, Malays would become very poor. Corruption, rather than the New Economic Policy, helps the Malays keep up economically with the non-Malays. The New Economic Policy is therefore a convenient camouflage to legalise corruption because what, under normal circumstances, would be considered a criminal act becomes perfectly legal if done under the ambit of the New Economic Policy.

Malays would suffer more than non-Malays. In time, Malays would face severe handicaps when a high percentage of the Malay population has to learn how to survive without the advantage of hands. It would be very difficult for the Malays, who as it is can no longer receive a university education -- because of the removal of quotas as required under an Islamic State -- to compete with the non-Malays who still have two good hands. Considering that more than 95% of those who work for the various government agencies are Malays and all the government departments are corrupt, it would be the Malays rather than the non-Malays who suffer severed limbs. This problem would be further compounded during the Umno general assemblies when kerises can no longer be raised because no one in the assembly has any hands left with which to hold the kerises.

Just these reasons alone are enough to justify Malays opposing to the death the setting up of an Islamic State in Malaysia. And if the non-Malays suddenly realise the advantage of an Islamic State and start pushing for one, the Malays should resist this call by the non-Malaysfor the setting up of an Islamic State which would clearly give thenon-Malays an unfair advantage over the Malays. To make matters worse, once an Islamic State is set up and many, many years later the Malays discover that they have been left behind because of the Islamic State, there would be very little the Malays can do since starting another May 13 would be impossible without hands to brandish parangs.

What can I say....I agree with every single word of the article.

What about you...?

I have been thinking of doing one drastic my own version of "Surat Akujanji"....here is the draft:

(Intro... tak tahu how to phrase it...kasik bunga2 sikit dulu laaa...)
- That I am Muslim, Malay, Malaysian Bumiputera
- Who believes in equal rights for every single person in the whole universe
- Who also understand completely the concept of "positive discrimation"
- Who believe that NEP concept was correct

I have benefitted a lot from the NEP, I thank the Malaysian government for what I have received, I thank you my fellow non Bumiputera citizens for understanding and patience, and it is time for me to be on my own 2 feet.

Therefore, I solely declare that I will waive all my rights as a Bumiputera in this country that I love, and will work hard, compete at an equal level with my other fellow citizens, and ensure that my success (or survival) in this country depends solely on the concept of meritocratie.

What about my family, my kids, if I have any...? 2 options:

  • Either above letter will be applicable to me and my family
  • Or the letter will be applicable only to me, and I will do my very best to raise my family without enjoying any of the Bumiputera benefits. it will be up to my kids to decide if they also want to sign similar "Surat Akujanji" when they turn 21
(I would prefer option 1 actually, kalau tak buat camtu, sampai bila2 Bumiputera benefits will not end)

Anybody can help me to beautify the above "Surat Akujanji"?

Any opinion?

What do you all think?

Am I suicidal?

If you believe in the same idea, may be we can start the ball rolling...

Ken Lee

Memang gua tak leh tahan ketawa...!

Bulgarian English - Bullish?

How Do You Decide Whom To Marry?

Written by kids:

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHOM TO MARRY?

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
Kristen, age 10

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?

Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
Camille, age 10

HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?

You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
Derrick, age 8

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?

Both don't want any more kids.
Lori, age 8

WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?

Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)

On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that Usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
Martin, age 10

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?

I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
Craig, age 9

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?

When they're rich.
Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
Howard, age 8

IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?

It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
Anita, age 9 (bless you child)

HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?

There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
Kelvin, age 8

And the #1 Favorite is...

HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?

Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.
Ricky, age 10

Englishman & Frenchman

An Englishman is having breakfast in Paris one morning (coffee, croissants, bread, butter and jam) when a Frenchman, chewing bubble-gum, sits down next to him. The Englishman ignores the Frenchman who nevertheless, starts a conversation.

Frenchman: "You English folk eat the whole bread?"

Englishman (in a bad mood): "Of course."

Frenchman: (after blowing a huge bubble) "We don't. In France, we only eat what's inside. The crusts we collect in a container, recycle it, transform them into croissants and sell them to England."

The Frenchman has a smirk on his face. The Englishman listens in silence.

The Frenchman persists: "Do you eat jam with the bread??"

Englishman: "Of Course."

Frenchman: (cracking his bubble-gum between his teeth and chuckling). "We don't. In France we eat fresh fruit for breakfast, then we put all the peels, seeds, and leftovers in containers, recycle them, transform them into jam, and sell the jam to England."

After a moment of silence, The Englishman then asks: "Do you have sex in France?"

Frenchman: "Why of course we do", he says with a big smirk.

Englishman: "And what do you do with the condoms once you've used them?"

Frenchman: "We throw them away, of course."

Englishman: "We don't. In England, we put them in a container, recycle them, melt them down into bubble-gum, and sell them to France."
Hehehe...!

Sang Harimau Yang Beriman

Alkisah....Seorang lelaki islam ponteng sembahyang Jumaat.

"Allahumma barik lana, fima razaktana, wa qina azzabbannar. Aminnnnn…!"

"3 kali?" Tan Sri tu agak terkejut, tapi tak la marah, dah tua dah dan memang berniat utk memaafkan isterinya,"Bagaiman a boleh terjadi 3 kali tu Maria?"

Perlahan jer la isteri dia mula membuka lebaran cerita lama, "Abang ingatkan masa kita mula-mula kawin, terus beli rumah dan selang beberapa tahun, kita susah sangat masa tu hingga rumah kita hampir nak dirampas oleh bank?"

"Ya, abang ingat peristiwa tu" jawab si suami.

Si isteri menyambung cerita, "Abang pasti ingat yg pada satu petang tu Maria pergi jumpa pegawai bank tu dan esoknya, bank tu tak jadi rampas rumah kita, malah bagi tambahan pinjaman utk abang mulakan perniagaan..."

"Emmmm.. sukar buat abang menerima kenyataan ini, tapi abang maafkan Maria kerana apa yg Maria buat tu untuk masa depan kita jugak", kata si suami, " Kali ke 2 pulak?"

"Abang ingat tak, abang hampir menemui maut sebab ketumbuhan dalam otak pembedahan?" si isteri menyambung cerita.

"Ya, abang ingat" jawab si suami.

"Kalau macam tu, abang pasti ingat yg Maria ada pergi jumpa doctor pakar tu dan esoknya, dia setuju buat pembedahan utk abang tanpa bayaran apa-apa pun."

"Oh Maria, walau perit hati ini mendengarkan, tapi abang tetap maafkan Maria sebab apa yg Maria buat tu untuk masa depan kita jugak dan kerana sayangkan abang jugak..."

Yang kali ke 3 macam mana pulak? ", kata si Tan Sri.

Si isteri menundukkan mukanya dan menjawab penuh lemah, "Abang, ingat tak masa abang bertanding merebut kerusi bahagian dan abang perlukan 248 undi lagi...." Tan Sri pengsan kat situ jugak...

Election Jokes

Extracted from Malaysiakini...
Mar 8, 08 4:38pm

Here are several jokes collected by our staff. Readers are welcomed to send in election jokes to editor@malaysiakini.com

(1) Barisan has announced that its new national symbol is the Condom, because it accurately reflects the government stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks and gives us a sense of security while we're actually being screwed!

(2) Pak Lah and Samy Vellu were in a helicopter looking down Kuala Lumpur. Pak Lah said, "Samy, if I throw two RM100 notes down, two people will be happy."

Not wanting to be outdone, Samy said, "If I throw 200 RM1 notes, 200 people will be happy."

The pilot heard the conversation and said, "If I throw the two of you down, 27 million Malaysians will be happy."

(3) Three guys were arguing as to what race Adam and Eve were. The Malay guy said they must be Malay as they are so good looking. The Chinese guy said that they must be Chinese as they are so calm even with a snake.

The Indian guy said that they must be Malaysian-Indian as they have no shelter, no clothes, no money, share one apple, advised by a snake who told them that they are living in paradise!

(4) Pak Lah, Najib, Shahrizat and Anwar were sitting in a KTM train heading up to Penang for campaigning. Near Ipoh, the train goes through a tunnel and it gets completely dark.

Suddenly there is a kissing sound and then a slap!

The train comes out of the tunnel. Shahrizat and Pak Lah are sitting there looking perplexed.

Najib is bent over holding his face, which is red from an apparent slap.

All of them remain diplomatic and nobody says anything.

Pak Lah is thinking: "These guys are all crazy after Shahrizat. Najib must have tried to kiss her in the tunnel. Very proper that she slapped him."

Shahrizat is thinking: "Najib must have moved to kiss me, but kissed Pak Lah instead and got slapped."

Najib is thinking: "Damn it, Pak Lah must have tried to kiss Shahrizat, she thought it was me and slapped me instead."

Anwar is thinking: "If this train goes through another tunnel, I could make another kissing sound and slap Najib again."

(5) Barisan wins the election. To celebrate, they decide to send more angkasawan to space. Najib calls together a group of Umnoputra cosmonauts.

Saudara saudara sekalian, we successfully sent our man Muzaffar to space using tax payers' money the last time. Since we have more than enough tax payers' money, the Cabinet has decided that you will all now fly to the sun. But Datuk, we will be burnt to crisp. Jangan takut, the Barisan government has thought of everything ... you will fly at night!

(6) Today's election brings to mind the old Northern Ireland election slogan - "VOTE EARLY AND VOTE OFTEN"

(7) A priest is dying in a church. Before he dies, he asked for Pak La La La Lah and Khai Ri Ri Riry to be beside his deathbed. Both of them were excited at this opportunity because they thought it would be good for their image with the elections right around the corner.

At the priest's deathbed, they asked, "Father, why did you ask us to be with you on your deathbed?"

The priest replied, "Because I wanted to die like Jesus Christ. He died between two thieves, and I wanted to do the same."

Jangan Cepat Melatah

Ada satu cerita, nak dengar tak?

Ceritanya cam ni,

Ada seorang pompuan, masa tu dia sedang berhenti ditepi jalan sambil melihat keadaan keretanya yang kemek. Hari dah nak masuk magrib, dia menjadi semakin resah. Dah lah jalan tu sempit, lampu jalan takde pulak.

Tiba-tiba datang sebuah motosikal dari arah bertentangan. Dah lah tak pasang lampu, tak pakai topi keledar...laju pulak tu...macam pelesit.

Perempuan tu apa lagi, dia terus menjerit " Hoi...Babiiiiiiiiii...! Slow sikit...!!"

Bila mendengar laungan perempuan tu, apa lagi, penunggang motosikal tu pun menjerit balas..."Celaka!!!!! *Tut* you!!!, *Tut* mak kau!!! Bagerooo...sedap jer cakap babi...!!"

Moral of the story: 'Hoi babiiiiii...!!!!! Slow skit...!!!!!' tu bukanya marah...tapi nak bagi tau jer...ada babi tergolek kat depan...Hehehehehehe...
