Pindah rumah....

sempena dah nak cuti musim panas nih, maka datanglah musim orang berpindah randah.... dengar khabarnya the peak would be end June bila sekolah dah tutup... dan atas sebab ekonomi yang tengah melecet nih, dengar khabarnya, tahun nih akan bertambah banyak ler rumah2 yang tersedia utk didiami (all the expats leave the country once their children dah abis sekolah...)

a friend moved this wknd (bukan gua laa... gua schedule to move bulan July nanti...)... dia tinggal kat belakang Burj Dubai... alaa... bangunan yang paling tinggi di dunia tuhhhh...!! sewa memang ler kow kow punya... AED125k per year... kira dlm AED10,500 sebulan utk apartment satu bilik (tapi apartment besar ler... 1100 sq feet)... sebab sewa dah menjunam jatuh sekarang, maka dia pun pindah ke apartment baru di kwsn yg sama (bangunan sebelah jer), bigger apartment, but with lower rent... AED95k per year, kira AED7,900 sebulan... utk apartment satu bilik yg besarnya 1200sq feet... For an apartment in the same neighbourhood as Burj Dubai (jln kaki pegi Bur Dubai/ Dubai Mall tuh...!!), kira murah ler... (imagine having an apartment sebelah KLCC?)
view from front door... sebelah kanan ruang tamu, sebelah kiri bilik tidur
ruang tamu
view from ruang tamu... kitchen dia style mcm bar sket...
view from the balcony, dari tingkat 30...
perghhh....!! gayaaaaattt....!!
kecut "t*l*q"...!!!!
hahaha....

that is "The Address", hotel sebelah Burj Dubai... from apartment dia tak nampak Burj Dubai... coz the apartment is basically membelakangkan Burj Dubai...

Al Manzil Service Apartments and Hotels...
Hotel baru tapi architecture lama...

View of Business Bay from the apartment

hmmm.... terlioq jap tengok apartment nih.... bila laaa nak sanggup duduq kat tempat2 yang very the stylo mylo nih....!!

kalo menang cabutan bertuah sempena promotion "Dubai Summer Suprises" (in June) ataupun "Dubai Sales Festival" (in Dec) baru lah mampu agaknya....!! 2 tahun lapaih, the winner of "Dubai Sales Festival" dapat Jet sebijik.... sumpah tak tipu...!! kapal terobang sebijik....!!! amende dia nak buat dgn Jet tuh huh...?

nevermind... think big... no harm in dreaming high...:) (dan bukannya naik "high"... haha...)

(drip... drip... drip... sambil ayaq lioq meleley tepi melut... haha...)

Bahana kad kredit....!!

Sempena keadaan ekonomi yang melecet sekarang nih, maka mana2 kad kredit yang tak diguna harus disorokkan,.... supaya kad2 tuh tak disalah gunakan di masa2 nafsu tengah membuak2 nak mendapatkan barang2 idaman hati... eg hengpong baru (walaupun tak diperlukan), personal laptop (walaupun ada company laptop dan PC kat rumah), tiket tersangat murah balik Mesia (murah2 pun AED1200 gak... banyak benda boley buat dgn AED1200 kat Mesia tuh... ini yang paling tempting nih...)

Maka kad2 kredit ana, ana kasi simpan baik2... letak tepi... simpan kow kow punyer...!!

tetapi lepas ana simpan baik2.... maka disebabkan umur yang dah semakin wiser nih (agaknya), ana terlupa ana letak mana itu kad2 kredit laaaah!! pikir punya pikir, kat mana aku simpan kad2 nih...? kalo betul disimpan dgn selamatnya, tak apalah... tapi kalo ntah2 dah tertinggal kat mana2 dan disalah guna oleh sesapa yang terjumpa kad2 tuh, kan ker naya....??

Mula2 OK jer... tak risau... they must be somewhere there kat rumah atau kat opis.... tapi sebab dah seminggu dua tak kunjung jumpa, maka mulalah risau... kat mana aku simpan kad2 nih...???? hmmmm.... check card statement online : no recent activities... hmmm, maknanya tak ada saper salah guna kad2 tuh....

tetapi rasa risau terus tetap ada.... depa kata no news is good news.... Iyolah tuh...!! kang sekali dia bagi news kang, terus beberapa ribu kena hantam, then how...??

3, 4 hari mencari kat rumah.... kat opis... kat dlm beg kerja...., kat Filofax.... kat laci2 kat rumah, kat laci2 kat opis.... aik....? mana peginya those evil brats....?????

Gua dah cuak dah....!!! so semalam, buat wknd mission... mesti jumpa itu evil brats....!!! Kalo tak jumpa, then must report lost cards to the banks.... hmm... kena bayar pulak for replacement cards... tu yang malas tuh (sebabnya kad2 tuh bukan selalu diguna...)

kad yang ini ana suka sebab design dia canteeeekkkk....!! got translucent (semi transparent) effect kat bawah dia.... magnetic stripe dia pun warna ala2 emas.... tambahan pulak, kad nih was supplied by the company where I was previously working... so bangga ya amat la kan... sell the cards to the bank, then you get back one card as a user/customer of the bank... (errr.... not sure if it's a "good scheme"... hahaha...)

Cari punya cari.... perggghhhh...!!! berpeluh gak ketiak ana sempena musim panas yang dah tiba nih.....

akhirnya.... ana jumpa those evil brats...!! kat dalam sampul surat, somewhere in the "working drawer" kat rumah....!!! perghhhh....!! lega....!!

Maka kad2 tuh disimpan sekali lagi ditempat yang ana boley jumpa dgn senangnya.... selamat ko...!! semoga lepas nih, sebab dah tahu kat mana kad2 tuh disimpan... ana tak ler dgn hepinya mengambik kad tuh utk "emergency purchases" yang sebenonyer tak "se-emergency" mana pun.....

selamat ko Labu....!! kuang kuang kuang....!! :D

From a country far far away....

nasib baik dia kasi warning dulu... coz kat sini, dgn sistem post office yang tersangat canggih, posmen2 memang tak ada....!! nobody will send you any letters to your house.... so kalo sesapa nak mencari postbox persendirian depan rumah, jgn harap.... memang tak ada.... sistem jalan depa pun masih tunggang terbalik lagi.... so instead of having a complicated dlvry system cam kat Jepun, depa kata.... "no delivery"... you want letter, you get a postal box kat pejabat pos....

dan kengkadang, kalo anto bungkusan2 beso... kengkadang bungkusan tuh tak akan sampai sebab tak muat dlm postal box... kira hilang gitu jer laaa.... 1st year I was here, had a friend who thoughtfully sent me bungkusan kuih raya..... tak pernah sampai pun... instead, the friend got back the bungkusan 2 weeks after raya... "addressee not known"
hepi bebeno teman dapat parcel nih.... tersengih sampai ke telinga.... got somebody so jeles one seeing this parcel you know... hehehe...
after layer 1, got another layer... dgn peta bandar where the fren is staying....
Jeng, jeng, jeng.....!!! got a Kiwi tie you know....!! with a kiwi pin lagi....!! :)
next mtg will wear the tie... :) janji....!!

dgn trademark kertas nota warna pink, dari siapa lagi....?

thank you Cik Pinky....!! :)

you made me smile ystdy evening...
hmmm, am having a good start for my weekend...!!

Release tension session.... :)

Sempena hari "Boss tak ada, dua2 pegi visit customer", maka apa lagi... bermaharajalela lah di kantor.... tapi tak lah keterlaluan... sket2 jer... lepas waktu opis, semua pakat pegi bowling together2 sempena "release tension" and "team bonding" session....

Philippe (Franco Lebanese tak berpendirian, kejap2 French, kejap2 Lebanese..., make up your mind man...!! Penuh dgn angin paneh jer dia nih... elok pun buat sales, nak goreng customers maaa...:)). Gaya mesti ada... first game hancus... warming up katanya... 2nd game, he got the biggest score... well done...!! (dah jumpa bola yg sesuai katanya....)

Momo the Sudanese in action... sama team dgn Philippe & Dina... dia tak mau join "our team" (Jovitha, Radha & me), coz dia kata (jokingly) Radha dah tua... tak nak geng sama org tua....!! hancur budak sekor nih...!! average score... dia tak puas ati sebab others got better scores than him....

Radha... first time main bowling seumur idup 50 tahun dia.... not bad for a beginner... average score, and ada dpt strike sebijik... Momo kata (dgn penuh perasaan tak puas ati.... - beginner luck laaa...!!). Anyhow, Momo kata Radha put a curse on him sebelum main bowling (for his comments tak nak satu team dgn Radha yg dah tua), sebab tuh dia punya bola semua menjunam masuk longkang...!! hahaha... mcm2 budak Momo nih....

tak ker cantik bola tuh...? straight to the middle of the pin arrangement... Radha kasi hantam saja baling bola tuh, tapi banyak yang memang straight mcm2 nak strike.... (tapi dia masih siksa lagi nak recover spare pins in 2nd throw...)

yours truly.... gaya mesti ada.... score jgn tanya, k.... sekadar cukup makan....

William, laki Dina... tumpang main sekali.... pun hancus gak.... haha...

Dina, dgn gaya lemah longlai dia membaling bola... nasib baik bola tuh pegi, dan bukan dia yang pegi....:)

Philippe & Dina.... posing maut punya...!! btw, amende Pinoy2 nih....? kalo nak ambik gambo, sama jer pose nya....!! peace laaa... posing pinggul ke tepi laaa... so cliche/klise (pronunciation : kli-she..., k... Jgn tak tau...!!:))

the 3 on the left were in the same team,... err... the loosing team I mean...!! :)

the ladies....

interesting enuf, next to our lanes, there were another group of people doing a similar "company outing"... and interesting as well to see this lady totally "hijabed" main bowling skali.... what a sport....!!! hijab, hijab jugak, but it does not mean that you can't do stuffs....

from behind, gambo nih can be a bit scary... hehe... nampak benda itam kat bowling lane.... :)

she was quite good actually in the game.... average laaa... tak la score dahsat gila punya.... another interesting thing is that they had another colleague in a wheel chair joining them as well.... when there is a will, there is a way.... with the help of a friend (yang tolakkan kerusi roda), she threw her bowling ball.....

dia baling bola warna fluorescent dia... (perghh...!! fluorescent tu...!!)

lepas main bowling (2 games... err... btw, we, the "old people team", won the 2 games.... huh...!! older means more experience la Momo.... sudah la luuuu....!!), pegi main "air hockey" lakk... Ini game Philippines lawan India....

pasukan laki bini Philippines....

dgn penuh bersemangat main tuh....!! pertandingan yang amat sengit sekali yang akhirnya dimenangi oleh pasukan India, dgn jaringan 10 India, 9 Philippines.... good game... good game... tough luck Philippines...!! tahun depan cuba lagi....!!! :D

after the game, we all went to Ravi restaurant (gua pun tak paham, nama Ravi tapi Pakistani restaurant....). Makan malam maut punya...!! What is good is that at Ravi, you have a good and tasty choice of vegetarian dishes, superlicious sedap makanan2 India/Pakistan NON VEGETARIAN (for the other carnivors like us), and a good choice of Chinese dishes (utk Pinoy 2 ekor yg tak leh makan spicy tuh....)...

it was fun...!! dah berumur macam nih pun masih aku enjoy bagaikan bebudak umur 25 tahun... hai....!! dah tuh opis colleagues semuanya muda teruna dara lagi.... how...? :D

Yemeni Jews to immigrate secretly

For Educational Purposes...
with points to ponder...
(in relations to what is happening in Malaysia...
but then, frankly, I might be missing some key points in the issue back home..., just observing from far...)

Yemeni Jews to immigrate secretly
Gulf News
By Nasser Arrabyee, Correspondent
Published: May 16, 2009, 18:14

Sana'a: A group of Yemeni Jews will emigrate from Yemen to Israel this week in a secret trip organised by a Jewish agency, sources close to Jews said on Saturday.

"About 30-35 Jewish persons, from six families, from Raidah and Kharef, are scheduled to leave Yemen forever on May 19, 2009," said the sources, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue.

"A delegation from a Jewish agency has been convincing these families and arranging the trip in Sana'a since the beginning of this month," the sources told Gulf News.

The Jews will be transferred from Sana'a to Tel Aviv via Amman, the sources added.

The only remaining 332 Yemeni Jews have been living under growing threats and fear especially after a Muslim extremist killed one of them last December in Raidah town, about 50 km north of the capital Sana'a.

A total of 267 Jews are living in the two areas of Raidah and Kharef in Amran, one of the most conservative and tribal provinces in Yemen.

The government failed to implement an order by President Ali Abdullah Saleh to transfer them to the capital Sana'a after the rise in threats against them.

The security agencies have shown concerns over the suspended transfer to Sana'a where they are supposed to be accommodated in one or two buildings together.

"They can be easy target for the extremists or Al Qaida, and a massacre may happen," a security official said.

After the promise of the government to relocate them last December, the Jews offered their properties and houses for sale, but nothing was bought until now. An extremist local mosque speaker urged the Muslim neighbours not to buy anything from the Jews.

Despite the continuous efforts being exerted by Jewish agencies to Immigrate the Yemeni Jews to Israel, US, or UK, the poorly educated and religious Jews keep saying they will not leave their homeland whatever difficulties they face.

"We'll live and die here in our homeland, we cannot live with the Zionists in Israel; we disagree with them in a lot of things," the rabbi Yahya Yousef Mousa told Gulf News.

Mousa is the rabbi of a group of 65 Jews who have been living in a luxurious compound "tourist city" in the capital Sana'a at the expense of the government since March 2007 after receiving death threats from Al Houthi armed rebels in Al Salem in Sa'ada province. Each person receives 5,000 YR (25US$) monthly in addition to food stuff.

"By virtue of Allah and virtue of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, we are very fine here in Sana'a," the rabbi Yahya Yousef said.

However, those who are not transferred yet, are very disgruntled and their position, in terms of wanting or not to immigrate, is not as clear as their brothers who seem comfortable and relatively safe in Sana'a.

"If the government keeps procrastinating our transfer to Sana'a, we will not wait to see them (extremists) killing us one by one, we'll go to the hell not only to Israel," said Haeem Yaeish, head and rabbi of the Amran group, told Gulf News.

They face economic and social problems because of discrimination. For instance, the Jewish women, who represent about 70 per cent of this small community, face difficulties getting married.

"We either send them abroad for marriage or keep them in 'stores' like the farmers of grapes who store their grapes to make raisins," mocked Nemah, mother of the rabbi Yahya Yousef.

The human rights activist, Mahmoud Taha, who is interested in Yemeni Jewish affairs, warned against immigration of Jews, saying this will harm the values of Islam in Yemen.

"Immigration of the remaining Yemeni Jews will tell the world that Yemen has no room for tolerance and cannot coexist with others," said Taha who lives in Amran.

"But if there is no solution for their problem by transferring them to Sana'a and giving them houses and money to live, no one of them will be here by the end of this year," he said.

More on Kerinchi

Gunung Kerinchi (gunung berapi hidup)

The Kerinchi were originally from the eastern coast of Sumatra. In ancient wars with Muslim sultanates, they fled to the interior of the island. They then settled in their present location, which is high in the Bukit Barisan Mountains.

Some studies have linked the Kerinchi with the Minangkabau of western Sumatra, but they actually appear to be more closely associated with the Rejang. The Kerinchi have managed to survive as a separate people, while becoming enriched by the coastal cultures.

Today, the isolation of the Kerinchi is being lessened by government-sponsored mass relocations of Javanese, Sudanese, and Balinese. Many of these have been brought into the area to work on plantation projects. In addition, a world-class national park is being developed to preserve the rain forest, plants, and animals of the region. Consequently, even more outsiders will be drawn to the remote area of the Kerinchi.

What Are Their Lives Like?
The earliest European visitors to the Kerinchi were impressed by the irrigated rice fields and by the diligence and relative prosperity of the people. The rich, volcanic ash led to a very fertile soil ideally suited to agriculture. Abundant streams promoted fishing as a supplement to farming.

Today, the Kerinchi population is composed of farmers, craftsmen, tailors, coffee-shop owners, plantation workers, and bus drivers. Rice is the main staple of their diet, coupled with fish, vegetables, and poultry. Most cooking is done on the ground, using wood for fuel. The people usually boil their water before drinking it.

Traditional Kerinchi houses are usually very similar to other Southeast Asian "long-houses." Extended families live together under one roof, but with separate family apartments. However, Kerinchi homes are unique in that they lack any public passageway to join the apartments. The central room belongs to the oldest female of the family. Kerinchi social structure is primarily matriarchal (female-dominated). This is a very unusual feature for a Muslim group. Within society, there are various levels of relationships. The smallest unit is the sapiyau, which consists of a mother and her children. Two or more sapiyau from the same grandmother form a sapintu, and other groupings follow. In marriage, no bride-price is paid. The husband becomes attached to, though never part of, his wife's family. When children are born, daughters are preferred to sons. A woman's brother transmits a title of rank to her sons, but actual property in land and houses is passed down from a mother to her daughters. This is called "lineage property." The actual managers of the property are the nine-mama ("mature uncles").

The Kerinchi place great emphasis on community rule through female clans. Their unwritten common law and tradition is called adat. Once boys reach puberty, they are no longer allowed to sleep in the family house. They move to the local prayer houses, where itinerant Muslim clerics teach them. Young men are expected to leave their villages in search of fame and fortune. This act is known as merantau.

hmmm... I like the 2nd last sentence...!! to leave their village in search of Fame and Fortune... huaaaa...!! fame one huh...? tak la kutttt... Fortune...? hmmm, may be..., sempena nak mengabihkan utang2 lapok kat Mesia.... ahaks...!!

Rimau Kerinchi.... antara mitos dan realiti... (bual2 kosong)

Bapak rimau

Even though, I am not that far away from my Kerinchi roots (3rd generation in Tanah Melayu, Moyang dtg berdagang dari Kerinchi ke Langkawi...), somehow adat2, amalan2 atau dongeng2 Kerinchi memang tak pernah diturunkan ke kami anak beranak... I believe that it is simply because they were never transferred/diturunkan to my grand dad or even less to my dad... Practical reasons may be... Masuk kandang kambing, kita mengembek, masuk kandang kerbau, kita menguak... But, sometimes, while day dreaming, you wonder how it is in Kerinchi...

anak rimau

according to my dad, orang Kerinchi ada ilmu rimau jelmaan...

my dad also says that this ilmu harimau jelmaan is actually ilmu mempertahankan diri... Ianya hanya digunakan semasa kecemasan... di dalam masa2 kesesakan, seorang Kerinchi and bertukar menjadi seekor harimau utk mempertahankan dirinya....

rimau jinak

I was just curious to know more about this Kerinchi culture, and did some "Googling", and found below infos at "Sembang Kosong : a place of horror" Well, this is not a serious website, so have to read the infos with a big pinch of salt...:)

SAKA HARIMAU

rimau kekenyangan...:)

so that's about it...

hmmm... maka kononnya, gua got saka rimau laaa...?

or got like... hari-hari mau one....!! kah kah kah...!!
apa2 sajalah Labu....!!!

Have you sent any "snail mail" lately....?

somehow, depa tak ada banyak commemorative stamps... boringnya... kasilah stamp yg warna warni sket...

we are so engrossed in the latest ICT gadgets that sometimes we let go of some of our nice old habits...

Imagine... wouldn't be nice to see your dad reading your letter/postcard in the living room (with his big thick glasses), besides your mother, who is looking at the photos which accompanied the letter?

...or your nephew/niece reading out loud the content of your letter to your parents...? (because your writing just sucks big time...)

...or to know that your small 4 year old niece/nephew always run to the house gate whenever he sees a Postman passing by, expecting to get a letter/postcard from you....? (surat dari Aichu dah sampai...!!)

.. I guess, nothing beats the warmth of reading now and then, news from your loved ones, coming from far far away and being able to share that letter/postcard (and photos) with everyone....

have a nice wknd everybody....!!

colours of Arabia...

Macam2 ada.....!!

hmmm... nothing much to story...

have been following up this Perak MB fiasco, but decided to stop...
"Ini sarkas Melayulah...!!" that's what I think... (abis la gua kena hantam lepas nih....!!)

personal side, nothing much... haven't really celebrated my birthday yet... tak leh celebrate cepat2 (apatah lagi before the actual date)... kena buat pandu uji dulu... lepas sebulan dua, bila rasa2 dah serasi, dah boley pandu laju2 sket..., baru boley celebrate... kang celebrate awai sgt kang, kalo terbabas, kan naya...!! baru masuk umur XY, dah meninggai...!!! hahaha...

so no treat at Burj al Arab... err, not yet... treat is postponed to June... kalo dah ada gambo nanti, they will be posted here...

Family... ok2 jer... Enche is recuperating, not 100% well yet, but with her semangat "harimau kerinchi" (kah kah kah...!! ini gua yg reka...!!), insyaAllah everything should be well...

hari ni somehow, not feeling the very well... have a running nose, berpeluh2 sket, berpinau2 mata sket... and really can't concentrate on work.... Ouh yaaa....!! now I knowww...!!! talking about it, I think I know why not the feeling very well one today....

pagi tadi bangun tido, siap2 to go to work, then suddenly, no electricity... (the whole building...). so dari sejuk2 aircond tuh, terus panas, maka badan pun tentulah meragam (agaknyalah... err, got logic or not...?). and I do have quite a sensitive nose... kalo pagi2 terlangkah kiri, maka hidung akan meragam sepanjang hari... hmmm....

oleh kerana kurang rasa sihat, maka mood utk kerja hari nih dah hancusss... nasib baik dah nak wknd..., kerja pun sememangnya dah hampir 100% diselesaikan pun... so no panic, man man lai....

now, let's talk wknd plan.... mlm kang cadangnya nak pi bersukan, but might have to kensel... we'll see if I feel better in 2 or 3 hours... esok awal pagi, the usual kemas rumah thingy, then got appointment at 11am to check out this apartment nearer to office (I have to move out in 2 months, kontrak sewa abis in July... so kena start survey apartment baru...). have decided to move from Sharjah to Dubai (nearer to opis) tak sanggup ler gng through the traffic jam from Sharjah tiap2 hari... the new apartment is basically 5mn away from the current opis... tak ker baguih camtu...? but, not confirm yet... gi tengok jer dulu...

then after solat Jumaat, got this Malaysian Food Bazaar kat rumah Consul General... Teman gi jer lah beli apa2 yg patut... nasi kerabu ker, nasi dagang ker... sempena melepaskan rindu kat Mesia....

nasi dagang, sekadar hiasan...

then rehat2 kat rumah...
Sabtu, kita pegi bank to make some payments... then, mari kita bersukan... then... dah abis wknd... fuhhh....!! cepatnya masa berlalu....!!

ok guys...!! salam wknd dari UAE...!!

Momo, the besday boy for today...!!

A great day for democracy: Perak MB Nizar...!!

“Maha suci tuhan kami, sungguh janji Tuhan kami tetap terlaksana”

might be too early for some, but I am deeply thankful.
take a day at a time, we'll see what comes tmrw
